I would like to inspire people to take action.
One of todays biggest topics is climate change and how this rapid change is drastically affecting our surroundings at a point that it’s becomming essential to find solutions to this problem. Lowering our carbon foot print, meaning for example that we have to rely less on fossil fuels, is becomming a real challenge nowadays. Recycling materials and repurposing them is one solution to lower our impact on the world. In the upcoming weeks I would like to inspire people to take action and to show one of the many possibilities that we have to reduce our pollution.
We are living in a period of global crisis. Besides the climate crises and also because of this we’re currently also facing an economic crisis wich sees prizes of fossile fuel and “raw” materials, and therefore also processed materials, rising like we’ve never seen before in history. Finding materials has become harder, processing them aswell as exporting them around the globe is having way to much impact on our environment and therefore we need to find solutions and ways to use more and more what we have in our surrounding.
WHY
With this project I would like to broaden my knowledge in relation also to the things I did throughout these years at DAE. This means to deepen my knowledge of materials, tools and how to connect, recycle and upcycle them in different ways. Throughout these years at the academy I’ve become really interested in connecting, recycling and upcycling different materials such as domestic appliances, plastic, wood, mycelium, food waste such as eggshells for example and by making my own tools that could help me out in the making process, like for example a heat press for plastic, making Molds with different materials: plaster, ceramics, wood and metal. So the purpose of this project would be to continue to learn more about materials and about how to recycle, upcycle and re-purpose materials and I would like to do so by using my own playfullness and passion for the making, but also more important to bring this knowledge outside of the Design Academy Eindhoven and throw it into the real world.
I personally think that there is so much value in materials and things that we still don’t see, and the only thing we would need is to create the right connections between peo-ple. Very often it happens that someone doesn’t see value in something and looks at it as trash where as someone else would be very happy to have that trash to use it instead of going to the shop or any other place to buy something “new”.
WHAT
The creation of a workspace is key to inspire myself and others into a creative and inspiring direction.

Goals
1. inspire people to take action;
2. dive into recycled and reclaimed materials;
3. experiment with all types of waste and leftover materials and research their properties;
4. research into sustainability, recycling and alternative energy solutions;
5. show the playfullness of finding solution and adapting to what I have;
6. document the process in a way that it can be shared with others;
This project will show and make people more aware of how much we already have and the fact that we need to give more value to it.
To process and reduce this waste of materials I would like to create a place where I have the possibility to show how to collect these materials and later on how to process them into something usefull again, by finding solutions and repurposing them for other needs.
HOW
As my canvas for this project I have chosen to create a workspace which includes a variaty of alternative solutions such as; find suppliers with different types of waste materials, store and differenciate the collected materials, create my own tools with the lowest cost possible, be playfull with finding solutions and share this experience so that it could inspire others.
This project is of a personal benefit and need for graduation and the work I will do as a designer after but it also includes multiple parts that are applicable on daily surrounding of others such as; constructing a space, flooring, storage, repurposing, carpentery, woodworking, welding, machinery… And it will try to include the basics someone need to be able to work with materials and to create elements we need in our daily lives…
I therefore challenge myself by limiting the budget to 1250,00 €, to inspire others and experience what is possible with limited budgets, to become aware of what you can do with a limited amount of money wich will force me to finding and using things around me and building a network community that could help out when needed.
